Al Jazeera announces Derrick Ashong as new presenter 
 
Derrick Ashong has joined Al Jazeera English as host of “The Stream,” a daily social media show. The Stream, which is scheduled to launch online on April 18th, will tap into the explosive growth of the social networks which are transforming the news and current affairs agenda as they create new opportunities for revolution and emerging democracy.
 
As a passionate advocate for the power of social media to promote change and development, Derrick has been invited to lecture at prestigious events and conferences around the world, including the UN Foundation, The London School of Economics, King’s College (Cambridge) and before the UK Parliament. Additionally, Derrick is actively involved in the music community as leader of the critically acclaimed band, Soulfége. 
 
Derrick Ashong commented on his move: “I’m looking forward to getting started. The Stream is about seeking out unheard voices and new perspectives from people around the world. Al Jazeera is the place to have this global conversation.”
 
Al Jazeera’s director of programmes Paul Eedle said that Ashong would bring freshness and vitality to Al Jazeera: “As an avid user of social media, Derrick is a great believer in its power to effect social change, and hewill be important to increasing Al Jazeera’ interactivity with viewers.
