Happy Emancipation Day! After a week away Derrick is back in DC and the Experience is back on the air LIVE! We will be discussing a wide range of topics today including the Federal Budget Fight and the narrowly avoided Government Shutdown, more classrooom controversy surrounding a history lesson on slavery and of course everybody's favorite TAX DAY. D will fill us in on what he was up to last week and we have a number of cool guests lined up as well.

For more background info you can get the scoop on the stories D has been reading all week over at Reddit.

Be sure to add your voice to the mix, give us a shout at 866-677-2496 or on Twitter or Facebook where you can chime in on some of the questions we'll be asking on the air.

It all starts at 12 noon ET (9am PT) - see you then!!

A Chance at Freedom

This week we've all been struck by the tragedy that has befallen our neighbours in Haiti. There's been an amazing outpouring of support that is a real reflection of the best of who we are. There's also been some shameful nonsense, particularly the galling remarks of Rev Pat Robertson, who claims Haiti is suffering because she made a pact w/ the devil.

It is an embarasment to hear a supposed "man-of-God" make such an ignorant & hateful comment. But it struck me that with all the talk of Haiti being the "poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere," many of us don't know why Haiti is poor. It has nothing to do with the devil & everything to do with greed & slavery.

See my article on Oprah.com for a window into what really happened & what needs to be done about it. May the truth be our guide.
