Harvard in Harmony

A few months ago I was in Boston for a speech to the Boston Public Schools, and I had a chance to sit down with Craig Lambert of Harvard Magazine for a conversation about Soulfège, our music and the philosophy behind it.  I brought up the concept of "Food for the Soul" which became the underlying theme of Saturday's broadcast.  For as long as I can remember music has been a core element of my life and identity.  Going to college at a place like Harvard, there isn't always a lot of room or guidance for people who are committed to pursuing a career path in the arts.  It's sort of akin to graduating from Medical School and heading off to build skyscrapers.  It's cool...but maybe a lil unexpected.

Given this, I was really happy to wake up today to a slew of sweet messages from fellow alums who had read the excellent piece from Harvard Mag that went out this morning.  Ironically, while up late last night working on a project, I was actually listening to a few songs from the first record I made after college which I hadn't heard in years. It features some friends who had a massive impact on my development as an artist, most of whom either went to or taught me while I was at Harvard.

So in a nutshell I want to give some love to my alma mater, for helping me to become the artist I am and for today sharing that artistry with folks far and wide.  We will keep trying to cook up good "Food for the Soul."
